Interns
September 1, 2011
Since its founding, Stion has been committed bringing in the best and brightest young minds in the industry to tackle an array of challenging and engaging projects. This summer was no different, as our factory ramp-up in MS and our product commercialization efforts created a great deal of opportunity for an eager set of helping hands to step in right away and contribute. Here is a profile of three hard-working, passionate interns who brought their talents to Stion, and their experiences at the company this summer.

Darius Li, who interned as a Strategic Marketing Associate, is a rising 2nd year MBA student at the Tuck School of Business. He graduated from UCLA in 2004 and previously worked as a Project Development Engineer for Exxon, where he managed controls systems for an oil refinery in Southern California. He was also active at Tuck in the Energy Club and on a student project for Google Ventures. As part of these endeavors, he brought a solid understanding of energy technology and strong analytical skills to the Company. Over the past 10 weeks, he helped build a comprehensive landscape of project finance options and supported the business development team in a variety of efforts. Darius is also working alongside one of our VC-backers, General Catalyst Partners, on researching potential investment opportunities across the solar balance-of-system environment. He said he enjoyed "hav[ing] had a chance to apply nearly all core MBA teachings to real-world problems while simultaneously building a solid foundation of knowledge around solar." Darius reflected on his time at Stion saying, "My time here greatly exceeded my expectations and I couldn't have asked for a better experience or team to share it with."

Ishan Singh and Viraj Kalyani were both Process Engineering Interns where they assisted the Document Control division of the Quality Control department and reviewed and wrote work instructions for both process and maintenance procedures. Ishan also assisted the Process Engineering team with research on yield improvement processes and tests while Viraj helps the marketing team with Market Research. Looking back on his summer, Ishan said "I really loved my time here at Stion, it provided me with a valuable opportunity to learn from the best about implementing everything that I was taught in class for process engineering and R&D in a cutting edge environment." Ishan will be returning to the University of California, Davis for his senior year studying Electrical and Materials Science Engineering. Viraj is returning to the University of Pennsylvania for his senior year where he studies Economics and Mechanical Engineering.

Vy Nguyen interned as an Administrative Assistant where he primarily supported the Human Resource department. He helped with the payroll process; assisting with the interviewing, hiring, and training processes; and also auditing employee files. He will be returning to the University of California, San Diego mid-September to obtain his Bachelors Degree.

Vy, Viraj, Ishan and Darius were great additions to the Stion team this summer and we wish them luck for the upcoming school year.
