Thin Film Scientists, Engineers and Technicians

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize solution-based, deposition processes for the fabrication of thin film photovoltaic (PV) devices
  • Perform designed experiments (DOE) and data analyses
  • Write Standard Operation Procedures
  • Write detailed reports, summaries, and reviews; present results in company meetings
  • Work closely with Chemistry, PVD, Device, and Test & Measurement Groups to fabricate and optimize PV device performance
  • Report to Solution Deposition Group Leader

Requirements:

  • Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Semiconductor Physics, Device Physics, or related field.  Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees acceptable with at least 3 years of related industrial experience
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with variety of thin and thick film solution-based deposition techniques (spin coating, spray coating, dip coating, screen printing, etc.)
  • Strong materials science or chemistry background
  • Expertise with thin film characterization techniques such as four point probe, stylus profilometer, absorption spectrometer, x-ray diffractometer, FTIR, SEM, etc.
  • Familiarity with PV technologies, and thin film PV device design and fabrication
  • Experience in process automation ideal
  • Must have the creativity, drive, enthusiasm, and ability to perform in a fast-paced, demanding, and multidisciplinary environment
  • Highly motivated team player, efficient problem solver, goals and results oriented

Process Development: Engineers and Technicians

Stion is seeking Process Engineers and Technicians who would assist the PVD group in fabricating devices using vacuum deposition techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize thin film deposition processes using PVD techniques such as sputtering, e-beam and thermal evaporation for the fabrication of thin film photovoltaic (PV) devices
  • Perform designed experiments (DOE) and data analyses
  • Write Standard Operation Procedures
  • Write detailed reports, summaries, and reviews; present results in company meetings
  • Work closely with Thin Films, Device, and Test & Measurement Groups to fabricate and optimize PV device performance
  • Report to Principal Engineer

Requirements:

  • Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field.  Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees acceptable with at least 3 years of related industrial experience.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with PVD thin film deposition techniques such as sputtering, thermal evaporation and e-beam evaporation
  • Expertise with thin film characterization techniques such as four point probe, stylus profilometer, absorption spectrometer, x-ray diffractometer, etc.
  • Knowledge of vacuum equipment and their maintenance and repair preferred
  • Familiarity with PV technologies, and thin film PV device design and fabrication
  • Experience in process automation ideal

Equipment Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Install and repair vacuum deposition equipment and other electrical/mechanical equipment for the Research and Development Team
  • Custom repair and upgrade of vacuum, gas phase, solution phase deposition systems
  • Improve equipment uptime and reliability
  • Develop detailed PM Plans required to modify equipment to improve overall process performance
  • Work with a cross-functional team of scientist and engineers to understand process/equipment interactions and generate Equipment Operating Procedures
  • Generate equipment specifications and documentation

Requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years experience in PVD/Mechanical/Electrical engineering
  • Hands-on knowledge of high vacuum/mechanical equipment and processing
  • Strong background in equipment design/process integration
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute on Project plans
  • Excellent verbal and written skills

Lab Technician

Stion is seeking a lab technician to support thin film deposition process work for its photovoltaic cells.

Responsibilities:

  • Purchasing and maintenance of substrate inventory for chemical deposition and other processes
  • Preparation of solutions and cleaning of substrates on a daily basis
  • Assisting in the operation and maintenance of equipment
  • Conducting experiments, collecting and documenting data

Requirements:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in the chemical or physical sciences or equivalent
  • Familiarity with chemical solution preparation and some characterization equipment
  • Familiarity with thin film techniques (spin coating, chemical bath deposition, etc), and device fabrication
  • Detail oriented, good organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work well with others in a fast paced environment
  • Strong hands-on experience

Thin Film Process Technician

The Thin Film Process Technician will support a team of chemists developing new materials for photovoltaic cell applications. 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform vacuum deposition of thin films
  • Perform routine characterization of thin films (XRD, UV-vis absorbance, optical microscopy, etc.)
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook

Requirements:

  • B.S. or equivalent degree in a scientific or technical discipline
  • 2+ years of experience working in a research laboratory setting
  • Previous experience with vacuum deposition of thin films
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Strict adherence to safety procedures

Process Technician/Engineer

Responsibilities:           

  • Thin film depositions by sputtering, EB & thermal evaporations
  • Fabrication of photovoltaic devices
  • Thin film characterizations by four point probe, stylus profilometer, and UV-Vis spectrometer

Requirements:

  • At least one year of experience in PVDs such as sputtering thermal evaporation and EB evaporation 
  • Preference for experience in an R&D environment
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a fast-paced and multi-disciplinary environment
  • AA, bachelor, or Master degree in EE, Materials Science, or Physics

Test Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Test, characterize, and analyze performance of thin film photovoltaic (PV) devices.
  • Perform test and characterization measurements on thin film PV devices, including current-voltage, capacitance-voltage, resistivity/conductivity, quantum efficiency, Hall measurement, carrier lifetime measurement, optical imaging and spectroscopy, profilometry, IR spectroscopy, electron microscopy, etc.
  • Write standard operating procedures.
  • Write detailed reports and reviews, and present results in company meetings
  • Work closely with cross-functional groups to provide feedback analyses and to optimize PV device performance.
  • Report to Test & Measurement Group Leader

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's, Master's in Chemistry, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or related field preferably with emphasis on optical and electronic testing, characterization, and analyses of thin film optoelectronic devices.
  • Working knowledge of thin film PV device testing and characterization.
  • Strong theoretical and working knowledge of semiconductor & device physics, optical physics, and materials.
  • Familiarity with PV technologies, and thin film PV device design, operation, and fabrication.
  • Detail-oriented with a high standard for experimental excellence.
  • Highly motivated team player, efficient problem solver, goals and results oriented.
  • 0-2 years experience preferred
