Chester “Chet” Farris, President and Chief Executive Officer. Chet Farris joined Stion as Chairman of the Board in 2006 and has been the President and CEO since 2007. He has over 30 years of experience in semiconductors, including 17 years in photovoltaics. He was previously the President of Shell Solar Industries and its predecessor Siemens Solar, where he managed global operations for the first manufacturer to exceed 100 MW per year of module production and 1 MW of CIGS modules. He also served as President of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), a national trade association, and as a Founding Board Member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Center for Photovoltaics. Prior to entering the solar industry, Chet worked in senior management roles at Hughes and Rockwell.
Dr. Robert “Bob” Wieting, Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Robert Wieting leads all of Stion’s Gen 1 process and technology development efforts. Bob has over 28 years of photovoltaics experience with a focus on thin films. Bob joined Stion in 2008 from Regenesis Power LLC, a provider of multi-megawatt turnkey PV systems, where he served as the company’s CTO. He previously served as Director of Engineering at Shell Solar Industries, where he led the technical team from R&D to megawatt-scale manufacturing of the world’s first fully qualified thin film CIS module. He also spent more than 20 years with Shell’s predecessors Siemens Solar Industries, PV Electric GmbH, and ARCO Solar, where he managed a variety of R&D and engineering initiatives developing a-Si, a-Si/Ge and CIS thin film PV devices. Bob has a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Stanford University and a BS with Honors in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology. He also holds five U.S. patents.
Bob Beisner, Vice President of Finance & Administration. Bob manages finance, accounting, information services and human resources for Stion and splits his time between Mississippi and San Jose. He brings over 15 years of experience in solar and 30 years in finance, accounting and human resources to Stion. He was head of human resources, facilities and health, safety and environment at Siemens Solar. As they evolved into SolarWorld, Bob became one of three managing directors in the USA. From 2006 to early 2011, Bob was the American point person for SolarWorld in the United States. He was an advance operator in acquiring the 97-acre in Hillsboro, helping to refurbish the plant into a site with 500 MW of annual production capacity and hiring the leadership of that operation. Bob oversaw the integration of the former Shell assets into SolarWorld, establishing the U.S. headquarters in Hillsboro, and populating that site with over 1,000 employees. As a CPA, Bob previously worked for Price Waterhouse and with Coopers & Lybrand. He received an MBA from the University of Kansas and an accounting degree from Jacksonville University.
Frank Yang, Vice President of Business Development & Marketing. Frank Yang leads Stion’s business development and marketing activities, with a focus on fundraising, international sales and other strategic partnership activities. He was the fifth employee to join Stion in 2006 and has worked closely with the CEO to lead over $300M in equity and debt financing transactions. He also served as the lead negotiator and operating executive for Stion’s US manufacturing expansion in Mississippi, helping secure a $75M low-interest loan and other major tax incentives. Frank has extensive experience in launching advanced materials start-ups, having worked in Business Development and Marketing roles at Pixtronix, Nantero and ISTN, and also worked as an Investment Banking Analyst at Lehman Brothers. Frank received a BA in Economics from Amherst College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Jim Brennan, VP System Sales & GM, Stion Energy Services. Jim leads Stion Energy Services, Stion’s turnkey projects and systems business unit focused on commercial, government / municipal, and distributed utility projects and systems. He has worked in renewable energy since 2010, most recently in commercial and industrial project origination roles at Borrego Solar and NRG Renew. At NRG, Jim led a cross functional team to execute on 70 MW of on-site solar with one of the nation’s largest healthcare companies. As Western Sales Director for Borrego Solar, he led a team growing the commercial solar business in California and Texas. He also has deep experience in solar and semiconductor manufacturing, having served as Business Unit Director in Jabil Circuit’s solar business unit and worked in various commercial roles for 14 years at Applied Materials. Jim received a B.S. in Marine Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and completed executive education at Stanford University’ Graduate School of Business.
Brian Campbell, Vice President of Supply Chain. Brian Campbell joined Stion in April 2012. He leads Stion’s supply chain functions including equipment and material purchasing, and all inbound and outbound logistics for both downstream and system sales. Brian has more than 20 years’ experience in global leadership positions at high volume technology and manufacturing companies. He joins Stion from Western Digital, where he ran worldwide sales operations. Prior to Western Digital, Brian was Vice President of Operations for Masimo, a medical device manufacturer. He previously held executive-level operations positions at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and Lantronix. Before Lantronix, Brian held progressive positions at Western Digital over 17 years, most recently as Vice President of Materials. Brian holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Arizona.
William Timothy, Director of Facilities. William Timothy serves as the Director of Facilities for Stion Corporation and was brought onto the Stion team in 2011 to oversee the design and construction of the manufacturing facility in Hattiesburg, MS. Bill previously held positions at Siemens Water Technologies, International Rectifier, and National Semiconductor where he spent 10 years as the Facilities Lead Master Craftsmen. He brings over 30 years of experience in multi-site and campus management of operations with a focus on development, roll-out, and implementation of corporate strategies that focus on cost reduction, performance improvements and succession planning. He also is experienced in environmental, health, safety, and security management in both domestic and international markets as well as ISO standards.
