Entergy and Stion Partner to Provide Mississippi’s First Utility-Scale Solar Project

Entergy and Stion Partner to Provide Mississippi’s First Utility-Scale Solar Project
April 10, 2015, JACKSON, MS–Stion Corporation (“Stion”), a U.S.-based vertically integrated solar manufacturer and project developer announced the ground breaking of the first of three 500 kilowatt turnkey solar projects being commissioned by Stion Energy Services for Entergy Mississippi, Inc. (“Entergy”).

These projects are the first utility-scale projects in Mississippi with two being less than 90 miles away from Stion’s Hattiesburg manufacturing plant. They demonstrate Stion’s continued momentum in its rapidly growing home market, the Southeastern US.

This first project will occupy a field adjacent to Entergy’s Hinds Generating Facility in Jackson, MS. In all, Entergy has planned three projects as part of its Bright Future Plan. The $4.5 million solar project leverages Stion’s high-quality, American-made solar modules. Stion’s industry leading temperature coefficient enables a significant energy yield advantage over traditional crystalline silicon solar modules, especially in the warm, humid climate of Mississippi and throughout the Southeast.

“This pilot project is just one of the innovative ways we’re preparing for the future under out ‘Bright Future’ plan, which took effect earlier this year,” said Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO. “These Stion turnkey projects should answer a lot of questions for us, and will give our customers access to renewable energy.”

The project site design will feature a single-axis tracking system that will follow the sun as it moves throughthe day, as well as the use of Stion’s frameless modules that do not require grounding wires, thereby allowing for additional efficiencies during the installation process.

“Stion is proud to partner with Entergy to deliver projects that provide a clean, economical source of electricity for Mississippi residents which is locally produced and strengthens the state’s manufacturing economy,” commented Jeffrey Cheng, CEO of Stion Energy Services, the project
development arm of Stion Corporation. “We hope this is the first of many opportunities for Stion to deliver our “Simply Better” solar solutions to our fellow Mississippians.”
