Stion is a solar photovoltaics company developing high-efficiency thin-film modules.  The Company is aiming to minimize the total installed system costs of solar electricity. Stion was founded in 2006, and its technology is based on the work of Dr. Howard Lee, a leading researcher in nanotechnology and semiconductor materials and devices with 28 years of corporate, government and R&D experience.

Stion’s focus on efficiency differentiates it from other emerging PV firms which are competing primarily to cut cell costs.  Customers make purchase decisions based on the total cost of an installed system and not just the cell or module, but because many system-level costs are area-dependent, reducing cell and module costs is insufficient unless efficiency improves.  In addition to delivering the reduced material and processing costs associated with thin films, Stion would cut dollar-per-watt costs at the system level by generating the same power using a smaller product, thus making PV economically feasible to more customers.
