Intersolar 2017 Wrap Up & Policy Update

Two key themes at Intersolar 2017 were the continued strength of the US market and tightening module supply, and Stion was at the center of discussion on both topics.

After installing a record 14 GW in 2016, the US market is off to another quick start in 2017, installing nearly 2.044 GW in Q1 of 2017. California remains the largest market at 18,963 MW total but fast growth in new markets such as Texas shows that we are at just the beginning of the growth curve for US solar.

As the market continues to grow and with potential trade action from the International Trade Commission later in the year, securing module supply has again become a challenge. Many manufacturers have cut back production due to financial concerns, and the US market now has only three producers which are continuing normal operations- First Solar, Stion, and Tesla’s under-construction plant in Buffalo, NY.

Stion continues to ramp production capacity in response to growing demand, and is well-positioned to serve late 2017 projects with 100% US made modules.

If you are trying to secure modules for immediate or year-end projects Stion has select inventory available today and is taking orders for larger projects that need modules before years end.   The best way to hedge against the tariff and impending trade case is to place an order with Stion today.

Intersolar Recap

For those who attended Intersolar we hope you were able to speak with our partners and were able to share the story of why Stion’s 100% U.S. made, sleek modules are Simply Better™. We were able to meet with over 30 of our partners including our friends at SolarEdge, CED Greentech, Joule Energy, Enerblu, Dividend Solar and many more! Stion connects our clients and partners with each other to help everyone grow their business as ensuring the success of our clients is the only way to ensure Stion continues to grow as a leader in this dynamic industry.

If you attended Intersolar, we hope you were able to spend time with Stion’s team members while in the Bay Area. Monday we attended the Women in Cleantech and Sustainability Event. Stion has been a long-time supporter of creating a diverse solar labor force. Later that evening Stion attended Antenna’s Networking and Storage Dinner, where industry leaders discussed different vehicles for the storage industry to grow alongside PV.

Tuesday afternoon, one of Stion’s newest team members, Josie Strutz accepted an IREC 3i Award on behalf of Solar Energy International (SEI) for bringing together 150 job seekers and a dozen employers at the Solar Ready Colorado solar professionals training program. The event provided valuable networking and interviewing opportunities and utilized Google’s virtual reality glasses to provide a real-life experience of what it’s like to work in different parts of the solar industry.

Wednesday evening, Stion hosted its Third Annual Simply Better™ Beer Tasting at 21st Amendment Brewery, where current and prospective clients came together and conversed over San Francisco’s favorite hometown fare. In attendance was Stion Energy Services, our turn-key systems business that exclusively uses Stion modules optimizing systems with other BOS components to create Simply Better Value™ for end users of electricity.

Thursday we learned about the new storage and EV charging solutions offered by SolarEdge as well as some of the new innovative tracking solutions offered by RBI, Gamechange Solar, AP Alternatives and IdeemaTec.

As we grow, we continue to look for ways to expand our reach and help our partner’s to better maximize the capabilities of our products. To that end, we are happy to announce that we will be continuing our popular Stion Simply Better™ NABCEP CE Solar Showcases in conjunction with SolarEdge in August. The next two events are:

Wednesday, August 2nd – Phoenix, AZ
Thursday, August 3rd – Escondido, CA

If you are not able to attend one of our training events, email us to setup a meeting at Solar Power International, the largest solar-only trade show in North America, which will be held September 10-13 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

From everyone at Stion thanks for a wonderful week and we thank you for helping us make the solar industry and the world at large Simply Better™.
