Stion and its capital equipment partner AVACO showcased their “Simply Better” solar manufacturing and product technology in front of an estimated 35,000 attendees at the recent International Green Energy Expo & Conference 2016 which was held April 6th-8th in Daegu, South Korea, where AVACO is headquartered.
The conference served as an opportunity for Stion and AVACO to highlight the equipment and technology used to produce high performance CIGS modules for the fast growing APAC market, projected to grow to $37B by 2020. AVACO has been a key equipment vendor to Stion since 2011, and most recently provided new thermal processing tools along with lease financing to help ramp Stion’s production capacity to 150MW.
The conference also featured Dr. Kannan Ramanathan, Senior Research Fellow at Stion, as one of the headline speakers. Dr. Ramanathan was a Keynote Speaker on the Global Photovoltaics Panel, during which he provided an overview on the commercial value and scalability of Stion & AVACO’s joint technology offering. Dr. Ramanathan’s presentation focused on manufacturing cost reduction including specific productivity improvements Stion and AVACO have made jointly. Dr. Ramanathan was honored at a banquet at the end of the conference.
After the conference Dr. Ramanathan visited Yeungnam University where a team of professors and students are conducting research on CIGS technologies. Stion continually evaluates opportunities to partner with Universities like Yeungnam conducting research on CIGS technology.
“AVACO has been a key player in Stion’s growth and we expect them to emerge as one of the top players in CIGS equipment based on the quality and scalability of their standardized offering ,” said Dr. Ramanathan, “Their involvement has been vital in our efforts to deliver ‘Simply Better’ module technology to our customers.”
