SAN JOSE, Calif.– Stion, a leading U.S.-based solar manufacturer and project developer, is pleased to announce that Stion’s STO Elevation Series framed modules are the first CIGS (copper indium gallium selenium) based thin-film modules approved as eligible PV equipment in Dubai as part of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) First Initiative: Shams Dubai.
DEWA is launching the Connecting Solar Electricity to Houses and Building Smart Initiative, with the aim of encouraging consumers to adopt solar energy as a mean of producing their own electricity, and in line with the vision of Dubai as world leaders in the green economy. Any surplus of production will be fed into the electricity network and credited for off-setting future consumption.
DEWA has committed to high technical standards for these installations and set eligibility criteria based on international standards on quality and safety. Stion’s American made modules proved themselves as “Simply Better” once again by passing these guidelines. The modules are made using a reliable glass / glass packaging design, and backed by a 10 year workmanship and 25 year performance warranty. With average summer highs in Dubai of 106 degrees Fahrenheit, Stion’s industry-leading temperature coefficient will also provide superior performance and returns to consumers and project investors.
“We are pleased to see Stion become the first CIGS thin-film manufacturer globally to list its products in the Dubai market,” said Frank Yang, Stion’s VP of Business Development & Marketing. “Dubai has established itself as a global leader in innovative, visionary thinking, and we think Stion’s ‘Simply Better’ technology will be a great fit for this market given the emphasis on aesthetics, performance and quality.”
DEWA’s First Initiative, a part of the Distributed Renewable Resource Generation program, is a leading initiative that supports the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city in the world. It also supports diversifying the energy mix by promoting the use of clean and renewable energy sources to build a sustainable future for the Emirates.
